New Single – Dead Man Blues ft. Robin Holcomb & Jeff Fielder

I’ve just released a new single called Dead Man Blues. It features three of my favorite musicians that I’ve come across. Robin Holcomb is someone I took lessons with in Seattle after hearing her several times and being totally blown away by her songs, piano and singing. She sings on this track.

Jeff Fielder is one of the best guitar stylists for songwriters in the rock, blues and indie genres. It’s no wonder that he’s plucked up for several luminary artists’ tours and recordings.

And my longtime musical cohort, Forrest Giberson, plays bass. We started playing together constantly when we were 17-18 years old while at University of Miami.

New Piano & Voice Album Out Today – Last Call

Each year for the holiday growing up I would make tapes playing and singing songs as gifts for family members. To stay in that tradition this year, I decided to take the same approach with this album – a super-intimate recording that was live and raw. This is also the first time I’ve recorded a group of covers along with originals.

Singing and playing these songs reminded me of playing in bars over the years. There was a certain vibe that came over the place once last call came. The stragglers who didn’t want to go home (for not the happiest of reasons) and people trying to squeeze out the last little bit of fun created a unique mix. And it was always interesting playing music as things were winding down. These songs represent that vibe (or at least the way I remember it). I hope you enjoy the record! Share it with anyone you think would like it.

“If We Were Vampires” ft. Loren Battley (Jason Isbell Cover)

Since I moved to Los Angeles, Loren Battley has become such a good friend it’s easy to forget that she’s one of the best singers there is. She sings with some of the biggest artists in the music industry and sounds amazing in a wide-range of musical situations.

I thought it would be fun if we tried to sing the beautiful Jason Isbell song, “If We Were Vampires”. It took me a couple of weeks to figure out what to do on the Rhodes since Jason’s guitar part is really hard to make sound good on keys. Of course Loren showed up and nailed her part on the first take (it took me a couple me a couple more than that).

Obsintha – Improvisation with Nord Lead 2, Rhodes, Moog Mother-32

Today I was improvising with three of my old inanimate friends and thought I would share the result. The red keyboard on the top is called a Nord Lead 2 and I’ve probably had it since the year 2000. The little black synth sitting on top of that is called a Moog Mother-32 and I used it for the bass sounds by playing the keyboard in the middle. The bottom instrument is an 88-key Fender Rhodes.

I hope you like it!

“Service” – New Piano Video

I wanted to share a recent recording of a piece I wrote called “Service”. Usually each day I try to write at least one new piece, song or progression. This was a personal favorite and I was going to only record the main theme. But at the last minute I decided to improvise after the theme to see if anything cool would happen. Let me know what you think!
